Laurie Penny is a British journalist and author who was born Laura Barnett on September 28, 1986. The Guardian, The New York Times, and Salon are just a few of the outlets for which Penny has written stories. Penny has written for American television programs like The Haunting of Bly Manor and The Nevers. She is a contributing editor at the New Statesman and the author of several books on feminism.

Penny was raised in Lewes and Brighton before being born in London to two lawyers of Irish, Jewish, and Maltese ancestry. Penny battled anorexia as a kid and was admitted to the hospital at the age of 17.
