A. Shanti Kumari, a senior IAS officer, has been appointed as Telangana’s new chief secretary. After Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao concurred that she should be the State’s top official, the State Government instructed her to take the position of Chief Secretary.
A day after Somesh Kumar was fired from his employment by the Department of Personnel and Training, the order was given (DoPT).
Ms. Shanti Kumari will be the first woman to lead the new State, having served as an officer since 1989. Ms. Shanti Kumari holds a Master of Science in marine biology.
She earned her MBA in the United States before working for the United Nations for two years. She has worked for 30 years to reduce poverty, improve education and health, teach people new skills, and protect forests.

Somesh Kumar joined the Indian Administrative Service from Bihar in 1989. He was put in charge of the AP cadre when he was hired (IAS). However, after the two states separated, the Centre handled the division of officers as well.
Some officers from the All India Services approached the CAT and requested to remain in Telangana.
K. Chandrashekar Rao, the chief minister of Telangana, chose Kumar as chief secretary because he had worked for the government for a long time before reaching retirement age.
This was done in order to keep the government running for at least three years.
