Matt Hancock Biography

British politician Matthew John David Hancock was born on October 2, 1978. From 2015 to 2016, he served as the UK Cabinet’s Minister for the Cabinet Office and Paymaster General. From January to July 2018, he served as Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport. From 2018 to 2021, he served as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.

From 2015 to 2016, Hancock served as both the Paymaster General and the Minister for the Cabinet Office. He has represented West Suffolk as the Member of Parliament (MP) since the year 2010.

Hancock was born in Cheshire, which is also the city where his family’s software business is based. He got a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) from Exeter College in Oxford and a Master of Philosophy in Economics from Christ’s College in Cambridge.

After serving as an economist at the Bank of England, he then rose to the position of head of staff for George Osborne, the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, before serving as senior economic adviser.

Hancock was elected to represent West Suffolk in the 2010 general election. He served as a junior minister at the Department for Business, Innovation, and Skills from 2013 to 2015, and he served as the United Kingdom Anti-Corruption Champion from 2014 to 2015.

He worked in David Cameron’s Cabinet as the Minister for the Cabinet Office between 2015 and 2016. He was given the title of Minister of State for Digital and Cultural Affairs following Theresa May’s election as Prime Minister.

During the January 2018 cabinet reorganization, he was given the title of Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport, which brought him into May’s Cabinet.

Hancock Early Life

Before moving to London to accept a post as an economist at the Bank of England, where he specialized in the housing market, Hancock spent some time working for the family-owned computer software company[10] and a backbench Conservative MP.

He began serving as an economic advisor to George Osborne in 2005, who was the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer at the time. Later, he rose to the position of chief of staff for Osborne.

Perliamentary Career

Hancock was chosen by the Conservative party as their candidate for West Suffolk in January 2010. In the final round of the competition, he defeated Natalie Elphicke, a solicitor who later won the seat of Dover in parliament, by a vote total of 88 to 81.

In the general election held in 2010, he gained 24,312 votes, which was 13,050 more than the Liberal Democrat candidate, Belinda Brooks-Gordon, and thus won the seat as the Member of Parliament for the constituency.

Personal Life

Hancock married Martha Hoyer Millar, an osteopath and chiropractor, in 2006. Her grandpa was Frederick Millar, the first Baron Inchyra, and she is his descendant.

They were given one of their sons through adoption, giving them a total of three kids. Hancock’s kids are not allowed to use social media under any circumstances, according to their father.

Hancock competed in and won a horse race in the town of Newmarket in 2012, which is within his electoral district. Hancock, a supporter of Newcastle United, will auction off his “pride and joy,” a signed team shirt in May 2020 to benefit the NHS.
