Rising Nigerian artist Crown Uzama, better known by his stage name Shallipopi, has shared his story on how difficult it was to find housing when he first moved to Lagos from Benin City to pursue his musical career.

He disclosed that he had tricked some boys into thinking he would only be staying for four days, and that’s how they finally decided to put him up.

Before the release of her song “Elon Musk,” Shallipopi made a statement on the most recent episode of the Zero Conditions podcast. When I arrived in Lagos, I was trying to find a place to stay. Then, because some of my friends in Lagos had previously told me they enjoyed my song “Elon Musk,” I began getting in touch with them. These friends had been showing off their flamboyant lifestyle on WhatsApp status updates. All four of the folks I reached out to indicated I couldn’t stay with them.

“I finally located someone who invited me to stay with them. I told them I would only be here for four days, but I was lying. I received a performance in Port Harcourt with just my song, “Elon Musk,” which wasn’t getting any popularity at the time, after spending four days there. However, my airfare was covered by the organizers, and the price was N50,000. My roommates were determined to accompany me. My first flight was the one.

“A lot of money in music, even an up-and-coming artist with just one hit song can make so much,” he also revealed during the interview.

Shallipopi rose to stardom earlier this year when his song “Elon Musk” gained a lot of traction on social media.

The song became a street anthem after the singer, who was born in Benin, collaborated with well-known rapper Zlatan Ibile on a remix.
