A member of the House of Representatives, Isa Dogonyaro, has died

Dogonyaro, who represented the Babura/Garki federal constituency in Jigawa, died on Friday in Abuja after a brief illness. He was 46 years old.

Akin Rotimi, the House of Representatives spokesperson, revealed Dogonyaro’s death in a statement.

“Hon. Isa Dogonyaro was a dedicated and passionate legislator who served his constituents and the nation with utmost commitment,” the statement continues.

“He was a pillar in the House, contributing significantly to the development of legislation, particularly in the area of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Control, where he served as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee.”

Dogonyaro was described as “known for his integrity, diligence, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of the Nigerian people” by Rotimi.

“His presence will be sadly missed in the hallowed halls of the House of Representatives.

“Hon. Isa Dogonyaro was a detribalized patriot who was both cheerful and scholarly.

“He formed good friendships with Honourable Members from across the country.

“He is survived by wives and children.”

The house spokesperson stated that prayers for the deceased will be held today (Friday) at the National Mosque in Abuja following Jumaat prayers, followed by interment at the Gudu Muslim cemetery following Islamic customs.

Tajudeen Abass, the speaker of the house, said in a statement that Dogonyaro was a “brother, friend, and patriotic Nigerian” and that he was “pained” by his death.

Abbas stated that the dead “demonstrated zeal, determination, and dedication to nation-building”.

“He was a consummate gentleman and a capable legislator. His departure will create a vacancy in the House. “We will greatly miss him,” the speaker said in a statement issued by Musa Krishi, his special assistant on media.

Dogonyaro was a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

His death occurs around six months after the death of Abdulkadir Danbuga.

Danbuga died in October 2023. He represented the federal constituency of Isa/Sabon Birnin in Sokoto state.

“Isa Dogonyaro was a diligent and passionate legislator who worked tirelessly for his constituency and the nation. He was a pillar in the House, making important contributions to legislation development, particularly in the areas of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Control, where he served as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee,” Mr. Akin stated.
