Nigerian musician and songwriter Ayoleyi Hanniel Solomon was born on December 6, 1993. He is better known by his stage name, Reekado Banks. In 2014, he became a Mavin Records signee, and in 2018, he quit the label. Before signing a record deal with Mavin Records, he performed under the stage name Spicy. In addition to winning the contentious Next Rated award in 2015, Reekado Banks was named Rookie of the Year at the 2014 Headies. On September 1, 2016, he released his first studio album, Spotlight, which debuted at number 10 on the Billboard World Albums chart.

The final child in a family that adores music is Reekado Banks. His mother works as a caterer, while his father is an Ondo State pastor. He was raised in a strict environment because both of his parents were pastors. At the age of 14, he finished his secondary education, and in 2008, he began recording his first album of music.

All of his previous tracks were created by his older brother, who also taught him the fundamentals of songwriting, producing, and singing. The meanings of the two names were combined to create his stage name Reekado Banks; the former portion of the name roughly translates to “strong ruler,” while the latter part loosely translates to “wealth.” Reekado Banks earned a history and strategic studies degree from the University of Lagos in 2014. Don Jazzy, 2face Idibia, DJ Jimmy Jatt, Olamide, and M.I. have all been mentioned by him as major musical influences.

Mavin Records deal and artistry

His brother sent some of his songs to Mavin Records through an internet talent hunt, which led to him landing a record deal with the label. Reekado Banks was signed by Mavin Records following the selection of his entries from among more than five thousand. He claimed in a National Mirror interview that his brother submitted his music and spoke with the company on his behalf without getting his permission first. Additionally, Reekado Banks told the National Mirror that he is a varied musician who creates songs with the understanding that every person is unique and has various tastes.

2014–present: Singles and Mavin Records departure

The day Reekado Banks signed with Mavin Records and released the single “Turn It Up” was February 21, 2014. Tiwa Savage is featured in the song, which became his first official single under Mavin Records. Reekado Banks, Don Jazzy, Korede Bello, Tiwa Savage, Di’Ja, Dr. SID, and D’Prince were all featured on the highly regarded song “Dorobucci”.

Along with the aforementioned musicians, Reekado Banks released three joint singles: “Adaobi,” “Arise,” and “Looku Looku.” He dropped the Don Jazzy-produced track “Katapot” on February 13, 2015. It was said to be a diss track directed against Wande Coal and D’banj. Don Jazzy refuted the claims in a series of tweets in February 2015. Reekado Banks claimed in an interview with Vanguard Newspaper that he wrote “Katapot” just for his followers.

Reekado Banks and Nigerian telecom provider Globacom inked an endorsement agreement in July 2015. After working with Mavins Records for five years, he announced his departure from the label on December 7, 2018. In addition, he declared the opening of Banks Music, his independent label. The Vanguard newspaper revealed in September 2019 that Reekabo Banks had fired his manager, Temi Solomon, his older brother. He dropped the single “Ozumba Mbadiwe” in 2021. Following the debut of Virgin Music Nigeria, the division responsible for Reekado Banks and Darkoo distributes was revealed by Kimani Moore on September 1, 2023.

Throughout his career, Reekado Banks has received multiple honors, including two MTV Africa Music Awards for Best New Act (2015) and Best Collaboration (2016).
