Sunil Chhetri (born 3 August 1984) is a former Indian professional football forward who currently captains both the Indian Super League club Bengaluru and the Indian national side.

He is well-known for his teamwork, goal-scoring ability, and leadership.

He is the third-highest international goalscorer among active players (fourth overall), trailing only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, and the most-capped player and all-time leading goalscorer for the Indian national team. He is largely recognized as one of the best Indian football players of all time.

On 16 May 2024, Chhetri declared that he would retire from the Indian national team following their FIFA World Cup qualification match against Kuwait on June 6, 2024.

Chhetri began his professional career with Mohun Bagan in 2002 before going on to JCT, where he scored 21 goals in 48 appearances.

Sunil was a member of the Delhi team for the 59th Santosh Trophy, which was held in Delhi.

He scored six goals during the tournament, including a hat-trick against Gujarat. Delhi lost to Kerala in the quarterfinals, and he also scored.

In 2010, he joined the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer, becoming the third notable player from the subcontinent to play abroad.
