Insurgents Kill Two Officers and Five Soldiers in Kala Balge, Borno | Army Confirms
In a tragic turn of events, insurgents attacked Nigerian Army troops in Kala Balge, Borno State, leading to the death of two officers and five soldiers from Operation Hadin Kai under the Joint Task Force (JTF).
According to a statement released by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Army spokesperson, the troops were deployed at the Forward Operational Base (FOB) Rann, located near the Nigeria-Cameroon border, when the insurgents struck.
Fierce Battle Ensued, 26 Terrorists Neutralized
The statement revealed that the attackers — believed to be from the Boko Haram/ISWAP factions — arrived in gun trucks and motorcycles, launching a coordinated assault.
However, Nigerian troops fought gallantly, repelling the attack with superior firepower.
“Regrettably, two officers and five soldiers paid the supreme price, while three personnel who sustained gunshot wounds are currently receiving medical attention,” Brigadier General Nwachukwu confirmed.
Despite the loss, the troops successfully defended the town and neutralized 26 insurgents, forcing the rest to retreat in disarray.
Military Seizes Equipment and Ammunition
In the aftermath of the battle, several weapons, vehicles, and a large cache of ammunition were recovered from the fleeing terrorists — a strategic win for the Army’s ongoing counterinsurgency efforts in the Northeast.
Army Chief Commends Troops, Pays Tribute to Fallen Heroes
Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, praising their bravery and dedication:
“Their sacrifice will not be forgotten. We salute their courage and commitment to protecting the sovereignty of our nation.”
He also commended the rest of the troops for defending Kala Balge and maintaining morale under pressure.
Public Urged to Remain Vigilant
As the military continues to consolidate gains in the region, the public is urged to support security agencies and report suspicious activities through available channels.
