Nigeria Railway Corporation has Resumed Train Services After Long Suspension (2022)

Abuja–Kaduna Train Services Resume After 8-Month Suspension: What to Expect Now

After months of silence on the tracks, the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) has officially resumed operations on the Abuja to Kaduna rail line, eight months after the devastating attack that halted services in March.

What Led to the Suspension?

In March this year, tragedy struck when a train traveling from Abuja to Kaduna was attacked, resulting in multiple kidnappings and loss of lives.

The incident sparked national outrage and forced NRC to halt operations on the route while security assessments and upgrades were carried out.

New Adjustment as Services Resume?

The NRC announced that train services resumed today, with major policy changes introduced for the safety and accountability of passengers.

3. Tighter Security Measures

  • All passengers must present their National Identification Number (NIN) or another valid form of ID before entering the departure hall.

  • Only travelers with valid tickets, booked either online or via the NRC mobile app, will be allowed to board.

  • Night trips have been suspended indefinitely as part of safety measures.

2. Fare Adjustments

  • Expect increased ticket prices as NRC adjusts fares to cover heightened operational and security costs.

Updated NRC Abuja–Kaduna Train Timetable (Daily)

From Kaduna to Abuja:

  • 8:00 AM – 10:17 AM

  • 2:00 PM – 4:07 PM

From Abuja to Kaduna:

  • 9:45 AM – 11:53 AM

  • 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM

For now, only two trips per direction will be accommodated daily, likely to ensure thorough security checks and manageable passenger loads.

Final Note

The resumption of train services is a welcome relief for commuters, especially those who frequently travel between Abuja and Kaduna.

However, with new security protocols and fare adjustments in place, travelers will need to adapt to the stricter rules.

The NRC has emphasized that these changes are vital to protect lives and restore confidence in rail transport.
