Mohammed Badaru Abubakar Biography
Mohammed Badaru Abubakar MON, born September 19, 1962, is a Nigerian politician who has been serving as the country’s minister of defense since August 21, 2023. He previously served as Jigawa State’s governor from 2015 until 2023.
Badaru, as he is well known, was a former chairman of the Nigerian Presidential Committee on Fertilizer Distribution to Farmers, as well as a former chairman of the Presidential Committee on Non-Oil Revenue. He is the founder of the Talamiz Group.

Mohammed Badaru Abubakar Education
Abubakar graduated from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria with a B.Sc Accounting degree. While at university, he was involved in community action, sports, and business. Badaru is an alumnus of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru.

Following his graduation, Badaru formed his business, the Talamiz Group, a conglomerate with diversified interests in vehicles, manufacturing, agriculture, animal husbandry, and commodity distribution.

He served as Vice President II of the Federation of the West African Chamber of Commerce and Industries and a Fellow of the Nigerian Association of National Accountants. Before that, he served on the National Council for Privatisation.
Badaru is the current National President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture. He ran as a gubernatorial candidate for the Action Congress of Nigeria but lost to Sule Lamido. Badaru won the 2015 Jigawa governorship.
Badaru was re-elected as governor of Jigawa State on March 9, 2019, with a total of 810,933 votes, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Aminu Ibrahim Ringim scored 288,356, and the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Bashir Adamu Jumbo scored 32,894 votes, making him the winner of the election.

Badaru received the traditional titles of Sardaunan Ringim in the Ringim emirate and Walin Jahun in the Dutse emirate councils in appreciation of his hard work and philanthropic endeavors. In 2006, the president additionally conferred upon him the National Honor of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).

Muhammadu Badaru attended Babura Central Primary School in 1970 and then went on to the famous Rumfa College in Kano, where he took his A levels at the School of Basic Studies at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria in 1981 and was admitted to the University to graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 1985. In 2006, Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar also attended the prestigious National Institute for Policy & Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru Jos.
From 2000 to date, the businessman turned politician was variously the President of Jigawa State Chamber Of Commerce Industries Mines And Agriculture, President of Nigeria Association Of Chambers Of Commerce, Industries, Mines And Agriculture (NACCIMA), President of Nigeria – Niger Chambers Of Commerce, President Northern States Chamber of Commerce, Chairman Board Of Trustees Northern States Chamber Of Commerce, and Chairman National Association of Road Transportation.
Alhaji Badaru Abubakar has also served as a member of various industrial organizations and institutions, including the Presidential Advisory Committee on Industrial Revolution Plan, Nigeria/America Chambers of Commerce, Nigeria Institute of Industrialist & Corporate Administration, Board Member Nigeria – Belgium Chambers of Commerce, National Privatization Council, National Council on NSME, and Member National Conference in 2014.
He was previously a director of Africa Merchant Bank Limited and Bank of the North Limited (now Unity Bank Plc), as well as a patron of the Kano Rice Farmers Association and the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Jigawa state.
Apart from being a member of the National Institute, mni, Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru is a fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, FCNA, and a Member of the Order of the Niger, MON, which he received in 2006.
He has the traditional titles of SARDAUNAN RINGIM and WALIN JAHUN. During the previous few years, the current Governor has attended a variety of courses both inside and outside the country. Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar has three wives and children.
