
Mason Greenwood Granted Bail After Facing Charges of Attempted Rape and Assault
Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has been released on bail following a private hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester.
The 21-year-old was granted conditional bail after being charged with attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and controlling and coercive behavior.

What Are the Charges?
Greenwood faces three major allegations, all involving the same female complainant:
Attempted rape, allegedly occurring on October 22, 2021.
Controlling and coercive behavior between November 1, 2018, and October 15, 2022, including:
Monitoring the complainant’s social media,
Restricting her social interactions,
Making threatening and demeaning comments.
Assault occasioning actual bodily harm during December 2021.
The case, which has drawn widespread public attention, was adjourned until November 21 for a preliminary hearing at the same court.
Bail Conditions Set by the Court
Presiding Judge John Potter ruled that Greenwood
Must not contact any witnesses involved in the case, including the alleged victim.
Must reside at his Bow Green Road address in Bowdon, Trafford.
Greenwood was not physically present at the bail application hearing.
Timeline of Events
Greenwood was initially arrested in January following social media posts containing disturbing images and videos allegedly shared by the complainant.
He had been on bail but was rearrested in October for allegedly breaching his bail terms by contacting the complainant.
On Saturday afternoon, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorized the charges, acting on a file submitted by Greater Manchester Police.
“Specialist rape prosecutors from CPS North West’s Complex Casework Unit reviewed the case and authorized all charges,” said Janet Potter, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor.

Since the allegations surfaced:
Greenwood has been suspended by Manchester United and barred from training or playing.
Nike dropped their endorsement deal with him.
EA Sports removed him from FIFA 22’s active squads.
