Tahir Mamman Biography
Professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Tahir Mamman OON. Between 2005 and 2013, an educational administrator served as the Nigeria Law School’s director general. He served as the vice chancellor of Baze University in Abuja for a brief time and was a member of the NDDC’s governing council.

Mamman was born in 1954 in Adamawa State’s Michika. He graduated with an LL.B from Ahmadu Bello University in 1983, and the Nigerian Law School called him to the bar in 1984. He received his master’s degree from the University of Warwick in England in 1987 and his PhD from the same institution in 1990.

He started giving lectures at the University of Maiduguri’s Faculty of Law and worked his way up to Dean. Mamman worked as a judge in Adamawa State from 1974 to 1984, as head of the common law department from 1991 to 1997 at the University of Maiduguri, as a member of the Local Government Election Tribunal in Adamawa State in 1997, as the dean of students affairs from 1997 to 2000 at the University of Maiduguri, and as a part-time adviser to the State Houses of Assembly in Adamawa, Yobe, and Borno State from 1999 to 2000.
In addition, he served as a steering committee member for the creation of Adamawa State University, an external examiner at Ahmadu Bello University from 2001 to 2002, and a patron for the Youth Federation of Nigeria and the Nigerian Youth Organization at the University of Maiduguri. Before taking the helm as director general, he served as the deputy director of the Nigeria Law School’s Kano campus from 2001 to 2005.
