Steve Harvey’s Early Life

Steve Harvey was born on January 17, 1957, in Welch, West Virginia. His dad, Jesse, worked in coal mines, and his mom was Eloise Vera. Steve was the youngest of five kids, and his first name, Broderick, came from an old TV actor named Broderick Crawford.

When Steve was little, he had a bad stutter and had a hard time speaking. But he worked hard and got better! In sixth grade, his teacher asked the class to write down what they wanted to be when they grew up.
