Nandy was born to a tailor, Mary Charles, and a mechanic, Charles Mfinanga. Nandy is a condensed version of her traditional name, Nandera. She began acting at a very young age. She was an enthusiastic part of the Sunday school choir at Moshi’s KT Lutheran church when she was five years old. She attended Mawenzi Primary School before moving on to Lomwe High School, where she became the head of the school chorus. After high school, she enrolled at the College of Business Education (CBE) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
