My wife informed me about her dream of being a director and filmmaker when we first met in the film industry. At that point, I began collaborating with her, particularly on my films. She co-produced several of my films with me as a production manager and assistant director.
As a result, my wife gained a great deal of knowledge about filmmaking, and I can confirm that I had a major impact on her decision to become a female director.

It’s true that I once worked with them on the 2016 film “Hassana a Hussaina,” which I directed. Several Nollywood and Kannywood actors appeared in the movie, which was filmed in Abuja. Good stories abound in the north, and the two industries used to converse and exchange ideas.

About your most recent film, “Tsangayar Asali,” could you please elaborate?
The movie Tsangayarangayar Asali explores how people misunderstand the history of “Almajiri.” About a century ago, we intended to narrate a story about the ‘Almajiri system in northern Nigeria. We are attempting to highlight Almajiri’s positive aspects because, whenever you bring up the subject, people simply bring up its drawbacks. For this reason, we created the film to alter the story that people associate with it.
Is this the reason the Kano State government decided to support the film?
Nevertheless, Motion Pictures and the KDC Foundation worked together to produce the film. Since the government was trying to modify people’s perceptions of the negative aspects of the Almajiri system, the governor of Kano was impressed and expressed interest in the video after seeing a few excerpts of it. The film was also shown in the state government house.
Why are love stories the main plot of most Kannywood films, as one of your followers had questioned?
This relates to how Indian films impact our lives not just for us as filmmakers, but also for our audience, who favors love stories over other genres.
Which movie do you think is your best to date as a director?
Macijiya, Hindu, Sadauki, and Tsangayar Asali are among my favorite movies.
What difficulties is the film business currently facing?
The primary obstacle is downloaders’ piracy. You could observe how individuals invest their funds to make movies, and regrettably, someone would download them and utilize them for their gain without the owner’s permission.
Among the difficulties the film business is currently confronting are theaters and other TV stations. Consequently, when we make movies, we don’t get paid back, which depresses our investors.
What role does Kannywood play in the upcoming five years?
Because we have the best production locations and stories, I envision Kannywood being the best film business in Africa in the next five years, not just in Nigeria.
