Bontle Jade-Lee Modiselle was born on October 7, 1990, in Soweto, Johannesburg, to Percy and Grace Modiselle. She grew up primarily in Johannesburg’s north-east district. She belongs to the Bantu-speaking ethnic group Tswana. Modiselle has two sisters, model Refilwe Modiselle and TV personality Candice Modiselle, both of whom work in the entertainment sector. Modiselle’s father, a model, committed suicide. Modiselle blamed herself for his death because she had a dream about it before it happened. After having the nightmare, she told both her parents, but it turned out to be true, which had a significant impact on her. Modiselle attended the University of Johannesburg and got a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Corporate Communications.

Modiselle began her dancing career in 2007 by participating in activities such as choreographed dance courses.
