Bianca Miquela Landrau (born August 16, 1991), also known professionally as Bia (stylized in all capitals), is an American rapper and singer who made her debut on the Oxygen reality television series Sisterhood of Hip Hop. In 2014, she joined Pharrell’s I Am another record label, which is partnered with RCA Records.

Her first EP, Nice Girls Finish Last: Cuidado, was out in 2018. She is most known for her appearance on J Balvin’s 2016 track “Safari” and Russ’s 2019 hit “Best on Earth“.

Bia got a new deal with Epic Records in early 2020, and her second EP, For Certain, will be released on December 11, 2020. The EP produced the single “Whole Lotta Money,” which was later remixed with Nicki Minaj and peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Landrau was born in Medford, Mass. She is of Puerto Rican and Italian ancestry. In an interview with Oxygen’s website, she discussed wanting to be a rapper from a young age after visiting studio sessions with rappers and assisting them in recording. Landrau briefly attended college, but after deciding it was not for her, she dropped out and began bartending to pay for studio time. She relocated to Los Angeles, California, full-time in 2017. She was found by rapper Fam-Lay.

2014–2015: Career beginnings and #CholaSeason

Bia was first found by rapper Fam-Lay on YouTube, who then introduced her to Pharrell. Bia appeared in the first two seasons of Oxygen’s reality television series Sisterhood of Hip Hop. In 2014, she signed to the I Am another music label as part of a cooperation with RCA Records, where she began working with T.I., Jennifer Hudson, and Usher. Later that year, Bia released the mixtape #CholaSeason. In an interview with radio station Hot 97’s morning show Ebro in the Morning in September 2015, she confirmed that she would not return for season three of Sisterhood of Hip Hop.

2016–2018: Touring and Nice Girls Finish Last: Cuidado

Bia was the opening act for Pusha T’s Darkest Before the Dawn Tour in March and April 2016. The following month, Bia and Victoria Monét performed as the main support acts for Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman Tour in Europe. Bia also performed on select events throughout the North American leg. Bia appeared on J Balvin’s single “Safari” in May 2016. The track topped the charts in Mexico and Spain. It also peaked at No. 3 on the US Latin Charts.

In 2016, Bia released the singles “Whip It” and “Gucci Comin’ Home“. Following these songs, “Badside” and “Fungshway” were released in 2017. All four singles were meant for Bia’s then-upcoming debut EP, Trap Vogue, which would be followed by her debut album. Bia described the concept as “high energy with Latin elements mixed in”. She also confirmed that the song “Esta Noche” with Grande, which was performed during Bia’s opening set for the Dangerous Woman Tour, will be included on the album. Bia finally abandoned the idea in favor of new materials.

Bia is featured in the tune “Miami” from Kali Uchis’ first album Isolation, which was released on April 6, 2018. Victoria Monét released a remix of her single “Freak” featuring Bia on July 10, 2018. A video was made, including a reduced version of the music that only included Bia’s verse and a chorus, while the full version of the song was available on streaming sites. On September 21, 2018, Bia released her debut EP Nice Girls Finish Last: Cuidado, which includes the track “Hollywood” and collaborations with Uchis and Kodak Black.

2019–present: Departure from RCA and For Certain

Bia departed from RCA Records in 2019, claiming that the label was stopping her from releasing new music. In August, she released her first independent single, “One Minute Warning“. On October 17, 2019, a collaboration with rapper and vocalist Russ was released titled “Best on Earth”. Singer Rihanna announced on her social media that it was her new favorite song, which led to an internet trend #BestOnEarthChallenge, and an increase in popularity for the song.

The song finally reached at number 46 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Bia’s debut on the chart, and was certified Platinum by the RIAA for selling over one million units in the United States. On September 29, Bia received her first BET Hip Hop Award nomination for Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse.

Bia signed with Sony Epic Records in early 2020 and released two singles, “Free BIA (1st Day Out)” and “Cover Girl“. On April 14, “Cover Girl” was released to urban and rhythmic radio stations. Bia released the track “Same Hands” in September 2020, which featured American rapper Lil Durk. “Skate” was released in November 2020, accompanied by a music video. The “NHL Mix” is a modified version of the song that was later utilized as the theme music for the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs.

All tracks are featured on Bia’s second EP, For Certain, which was published on December 11, 2020, by Epic Records. The music video for “Whole Lotta Money” was released on April 8, 2021. Following viral success on the social media platform TikTok, the song was released to Rhythmic radio on May 18, 2021, becoming the EP’s sixth single. On July 9, 2021, a remix featuring Nicki Minaj was released, and the song peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Bia’s highest-charting hit. She released the track “Besito” with G Herbo on September 24. Along with the release, Bia revealed that the deluxe edition of For Certain will be released on October 22, 2021.

In an interview with Ladygunn, Bia disclosed that she is working on an R&B project called R&BIA.

Bia debuted her makeup line, Beauty for Certain, on February 5, 2022. Bia and rapper J. Cole collaborated on the song “London” which was released on April 8, 2022. Bia appeared on the “Queen Mix” remix of Nicki Minaj’s song “Super Freaky Girl” on September 9, 2022, along with JT from City Girls, Katie Got Bandz, Akbar V, and Maliibu Miitch.

In September 2022, Bia appeared in German rapper Luciano’s song “Bamba“. On March 3, 2023, Bia released a song called “Sixteen“. Bia’s single “I’m That Bitch” features American record producer Timbaland and was released on March 24, 2023.

Bia confirmed during an interview with Bootleg Kev that she has finished her debut album. She said that she has decided on the name of her future album and that the cover art is complete, as well as disclosing that “I’m That Bitch” and “London” will be on the tracklist.
