Ummah Shehu How I became an actress in Kannywood

Ummah Shehu, an actress from Kannywood, spoke with PREMIUM TIMES about how she got her start in the Hausa film industry.

Ummah, 26, claimed that working in the business revealed acting prowess she was unaware of.

Ummah, who is relatively new to Kannywood, took up her first City People Award in 2015, where she was named best new actress in the Hausa film category.

Aside from Adam Zango, Ummah claimed that performing in the movie Sa-In-Sa was the biggest change in her life.

Even though I was acting alongside the wonderful Adam Zango in the Kannywood, it was still a terrific experience for me as a rookie. In the movie, I played his wife.

Despite meeting a lot of other performers who couldn’t match my performance for the award, that same movie, Sa-In-Sa, won me an award last year,” the actress remarked.

Ummah also gave a brief account of how her acting career began.

“It was largely thanks to Tijjani Asase that I joined the Kannywood. Having long been a family friend, he visited my home in Tudun Wada, Kaduna, one day, and during our conversation he asked me to follow him to a place where they were filming a new movie.

“When we got there, the director, Falalu Dorayi, insisted on filming that scene that same day even though the actress who was supposed to be in the movie wasn’t available.

When I reluctantly said, “Let me do it,” they all turned to face me. “Yes, let me do it,” I replied,” she remarked.

Ummah claimed to have received the script and the role to follow.

“I finished in two hours, and I departed,” she declared. “Movie directors and producers started calling me. I have performed in over 30 movies to date, and I’m still going strong.

Regarding her plans for marriage, Ummah expressed her hope to wed shortly.

“I had a child when I was married. It didn’t last long, and I’m currently attempting to advance my profession, but I will undoubtedly be married again and invite PREMIUM TIMES this time around,” she declared.

Ummah added that Switzerland is her ideal vacation spot. She adores the Hausa specialty known as Tuwo miyan Kubewa.

The Arewa 24 Interview with Ummah Shehu

The interview between actress Ummah Shehu and Aminu Sharif Momoh on Arewa24’s Kundin Kannywood was the talk of the Kannywood media last week. Actor Aminu Sharif hosts Kundin Kannywood, a weekly show on the Hausa channel, every Wednesday.

Momoh asked the actress what the name of the woman who breastfed Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was. Momoh is notorious for putting Kannywood actors and actresses on the hot seat and asking some incredibly tough yet useless questions.

She attempted to sidestep the subject by telling him not to treat her in this way, but Momoh persisted. The media went into a frenzy when her reaction made it clear that she didn’t know the woman’s name.

Why not? from these are the fundamentals of Islam that we have been taught from elementary school, it is expected of every Muslim to be aware of them.

Social media users responded to his question in a variety of ways, as usual. Some thought it was pertinent and on point, pointing out that the actress and her colleagues will need to be aware of such things

. Others, including myself, felt it was unnecessary, irrelevant, and completely out of context.

Ummah Shehu isn’t well-known, by the way, even though she is an Islamic scholar and has memorized Hadiths and the Qur’an. She is well-known due to her acting career.

She was invited for the interview because that is her area of expertise. Thus, it would only be just and appropriately professional if he stopped there with his questioning.

To Her Defense

It is not the same as not knowing the seven ablution duties to not know the name of the woman who breastfed the prophet (SAW). It differs from not being able to recite Suratu Fatiha in the same way.

Similar to how it seemed to catch Ummah off guard, anyone may be caught off guard by a question, especially when it’s broadcast live.

You’ll discover that you already know it, yet even the most self-assured individuals might get frightened when faced with the pressure of responding to a question rapidly in front of a live audience or camera.

And if Momoh planned it out to ambush her, as some people think, then I would simply say he has exposed the Kannywood industry as a whole because I’m sure there are many individuals who are exactly like her. I also can’t wait to watch his live chat with Bello Muhammad Bello.

To his Defense

Since he is an actor and not a journalist, it is difficult to hold him accountable for errors like this. Second, he was presumably being truthful and attempting to please his audience since, when asked properly, topics like that are what make interviews entertaining. We all want to know about the personal lives of our favorite stars off-screen.

Arewa24’s lack of tact

Following all of that, Arewa24 released a second video in which they unequivocally reported that their YouTube viewership rose as a result of the video’s viral success.

Really, folks? Your employee made a mistake that put someone’s reputation in jeopardy, and you are unable to even offer an apology? This is just insensitive, in my opinion.

They were attempting to claim that since she gained 4.7 percent more Instagram followers, both parties benefited. I’m still not sure how it will lessen the daily abuses she receives, which prompted her to safeguard her Instagram account a few days ago.

Would Arewa24 please assist us in determining the proportion of her followers who stopped following her and the number of her admirers who were devastated by this extreme humiliation?

What I believe

Regardless of perspective, Arewa24 owes Ummah Shehu an apology for what was a shameful occurrence. She ought to have told Momoh up front that she wouldn’t respond to the question or any others about religion, in my opinion. However, we would hardly have noticed if Momoh hadn’t persisted.

But since I’m sure hundreds of individuals have already informed Ummah Shehu the identity of the woman who breastfed the prophet and more, I don’t need to remind her to go find out.

However, I must remind Momoh to reconsider his strategies, study more about journalism, maybe even earn a certificate in it, and review its ethics.

He asks some extremely pointless questions. For example, I watched a Kundin Kannywood episode in which he inquired of another actress, who was wearing a wig, about the position of Islam.

And if that piques his interest, I’ve spoken with a very good and capable journalist about it. Coincidentally, though, I discovered that this journalist is a fan of his show.

He informed me that in addition to his interview with Shehu, there are flaws in his methodology and he needs to distinguish between two situations: when he’s filming a scene and when conducting an interview.

The Hisbah Board Threatened The Hero Ummah Shehu In Court

“What’s wrong with you, I’m going in and arguing because Sadiya Haruna is doing something wrong…you Hisbans, if I say I’m going to call names, you won’t be happy.”

According to reports from Kanon Nigeria, the Hisbah Commission has threatened the Kannywood actress Umma Shehu in court if she does not appear before it and clarify her allegations against the commission.

At the beginning of this week, Shehu accused members of the Hisbah commission of interfering because she arrested Sadiya Haruna on the suspicion that she was advertising her hajj on social media using obscene words and pictures.

Sadiya Haruna was involved in the production of Kannywood films before she later withdrew.

Now she sells women’s clothing that I have shared on social media.

“What about you? I came in to argue because Sadia Haruna is doing something wrong….you Hisbans, if I say I will call names, you will not be happy, there are those who are looking for women too.”

Shehu said in a video that she seems to have already deleted from her page if she posted it here.

However, reports from Kano say that the Commander of Hisba Harun Sani Ibn Sina, has invited the actress of ‘Gidan Badamasi’ to appear before her to clarify the allegations she made.

Attempts to hear from the actress were unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report, except for the latest thing she published on her Instagram page with a picture saying, “Daughter of Shehu sai gani,” and she posted pictures of her eyes.

Many people blame the Hisbah board for not being fair while carrying out its duties, where it is said that it cools its anger on the poor while it turns its eyes away from the things that the rich do.

However, in many cases, the Hisbah Board has denied this accusation against it.

Sadiya Haruna has already been released by Hisba.
