Mustapha Muhammed Barkindo Biography

Born on February 13, 1944, Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha assumed the title of Lamido of Adamawa, the traditional ruler of Adamawa State, Nigeria, on March 18, 2010. The state governor, Murtala Nyako, approved the ceremony after it.

On August 27, 1969, Princess Hajara Usman Nagoggo and Lamido Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha welcomed Alhaji Mustapha Barkindo into the world. Lamido Aliyu Mustapha of the Adamawa Emirate and Sir Usman Nagoggo of the Katsina Emirate were the two Emirs of the Uthman Dan Fodio Caliphate from whom Prince Mustapha Barkindo descended. Growing up in a conservative environment, he was obliged to begin his Islamic education at a young age.

He started attending the Musdafa Primary School in Yola from 1975 to 1981 when he was six years old, and he finished his secondary school there from 1981 to 1986 at Yelwa Government Secondary School in Yola. It so happened that the school he attended was founded by his grandpa, Lamido Aliyu and that other notable sons of Yola have graduated from it.

At the age of 20, Prince Mustapha studied public administration at the esteemed Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, following in his father’s footsteps. He received a diploma in 1990.

He started working as an assistant executive officer of accounts at the Yola Local Government Council in 1991 after receiving his diploma. Later, on July 22, 2009, he started working with African Petroleum, and he left in January 2009. He attended many seminars and courses while he was employed, which helped him establish his own private companies in important economic sectors.

On June 15, 2012, Prince Mustapha Muhammed Barkindo was named a Commissioner overseeing the recently established Ministry for Mineral Resources and a member of the Adamawa State Executive Council. It is anticipated that he will capitalize on and present Adamawa State’s mineral resource potential to investors. It is noteworthy that Prince Mustapha, also referred to as Jika by friends, is carrying on the legacy of his father, who from 1979 to 1983 also worked as a Commissioner in the Alhaji Abubakar Bards administration in the then-Gongola State.

Sen. Muhammadu Jibirilla Bindow appointed Prince Mustapha Muhammed Barkindo as a Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftains Affairs effective in 2015.

The Adamawa Emirate Council bestowed upon him the traditional title “Kaura Adamawa” in honor of his transparency, honesty, selfless commitment to humanity, and generosity in his society. The Emirate Council has a new title called Kaura, which originates from Katsina Emirate. His Royal Highness, the Lamido Adamawa Alhaji Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha Ph.D., CFR, expects Prince Mustapha Muhammed Barkindo to serve as an example for the young people of the Emirate as he performs the duties allocated to him.
