Douye Diri (born June 4, 1959) is a Nigerian politician who has been the governor of Bayelsa State since 2020. From 2019 to 2020, he served as a senator representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District in the ninth National Assembly.

Douye Diri Early Life and Education
Douye Diri’s early education began at Okoro Primary School in Sampou and ended at Rev. Proctor Memorial Primary School in Kaiama in 1977, where he received his First School Leaving Certificate.

Before entering politics, Senator Douye taught at several government schools in remote Old Rivers State.
He is the First National Organizing Secretary for the Ijaw National Congress (INC), the Ijaw Nation’s major organization.
He was appointed executive secretary of the Centre for Youth Development during the tenure of Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, Bayelsa State’s first executive governor.
During the Goodluck Jonathan administration, he was named Bayelsa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports.

On February 13, 2020, the Supreme Court of Nigeria nullified the results of the 2019 Bayelsa State gubernatorial elections on the basis that the running mate of the eventual winner, David Lyon, submitted a secret certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission. The court ordered Diri to be awarded a certificate of return, making him governor-elect.
On 14 February 2020, he was sworn in as the governor of Bayelsa state.
August 2020 court rulings
On August 17, 2020, a tribunal in Abuja, Nigeria, ordered Diri’s removal as state governor. However, on October 2, 2020, a court of appeal sitting in Abuja reversed the tribunal court and confirmed him as governor.
