Tottenham Manager Nearly Had Heart Attack Over 3-2 Late Drama – What An Easy Joke!

“I Almost Had a Heart Attack!” – Tottenham Manager Conte Reacts to Wild Spurs Comeback at Bournemouth

Antonio Conte couldn’t hold back his emotions after Tottenham pulled off a stunning 3-2 comeback against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in February 2022, ending their three-game winless run dramatically.

“I thought in my mind and my heart I could have a heart attack,” Conte joked after the match, recalling the rollercoaster of emotions he experienced during the final moments.

Tottenham had found themselves two goals down after Kieffer Moore bagged a brace for the Cherries, putting the visitors on the ropes just after the break.

But Ryan Sessegnon sparked life into the Spurs side with a 57th-minute strike, followed by a Ben Davies header from an Ivan Perisic corner that leveled the score.

With the clock winding down, it was Rodrigo Bentancur who played the hero.

His cool finish in stoppage time secured a dramatic turnaround, and this time, there was no VAR heartbreak.

Just days earlier, Spurs were denied a last-minute winner against Sporting Lisbon after Harry Kane’s strike was ruled offside, a moment that still lingered in Conte’s mind.

“I said I’d go down [the tunnel] and stay calm.

Then I wait for the decision of the referee,” Conte explained. “But for sure it was great to see the desire of my players and the reaction they had.”

A Squad With Fire… and Flaws

Conte rotated his squad with one eye on their must-win Champions League clash against Marseille, but his plan nearly unraveled as Bournemouth took a commanding lead.

However, the Spurs’ mentality shift impressed the boss.

“When we drew 2-2, in our mind the only thought was to take the ball and play again,” he said. “This reaction was positive.

I want this from my players.”

Despite the chaos, Conte remains focused on the bigger picture.

As he approaches his first anniversary with the club, he emphasized the importance of developing confidence and responsibility in his squad.

“They are good players but sometimes lose confidence easily,” he said. “We have to try to find stability… We are a work in progress.”

Bournemouth’s Fight Falls Short

Gary O’Neil, Bournemouth’s interim head coach, praised his team’s fight despite the defeat.

“They put everything in and got nothing out. The nature of that is tough to take,” he said, acknowledging Spurs’ depth and quality.

“When they bring on Lucas Moura, Perisic, Bryan Gil, Bentancur… It’s tricky.

Losing to Tottenham is never a disgrace.”
