Omah Lay was once a member of a rap trio known as “Lil King.” Later, he turned his attention to songwriting and music production, for which he received little credit. In April 2019, he released “Do Not Disturb” as a result. A month later, “Hello Brother” was released.

In June 2019, he signed with KeyQaad as a record label and took a seven-month hiatus. He worked on his debut EP, Get Layd, during that time. “I started working on it in August of 2019,” he said to OkayAfrica. I eventually had to stop using social media, avoid a lot of distractions, and maintain my composure to finish the job successfully. “Bad Influence” was the first song I recorded for Get Layd. Before the songs we had to include in the project, I had done it that way.” After the interval, he released “Bad Influence,” which by the end of 2020 was the Nigerian song that had received the most streams on Apple Music.

Lay’s first official single, “You,” was released on February 14, 2020. On May 22, 2020, he dropped his five-track debut EP, Get Layd. In Nigeria, the EP reached its highest position on the Apple Music charts. All five of the EP’s tracks, with “You” peaking at number one, made it to the top 15 of the Nigerian Apple Music rankings.
