Ms Shettima is a political and social activist as well as a qualified physiotherapist who has worked with some of the world’s best athletes, including Jamaica’s Usain Bolt.
She was a member of the London Olympics’ medical staff, where she worked with Jamaica’s star athlete.
Born into the Kano royal family, Ms Shettima received her early schooling in Kano before attending the Federal School of Physiotherapy at Bayero University, where she earned a BSc with distinction.
Ms Shettima established a distinguished career in physiotherapy while also being a social entrepreneur, in addition to her prominent role in the field of supporting women and expanding her circle of participation in society, making her one of Africa’s most influential young leaders.
She briefly worked at Dala Orthopedic and Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospitals in Kano before traveling to London to pursue her studies.
She graduated from the University of East London, Stratford, with a Masters degree in sports physiotherapy.
The ESGT University of Technology in Benin Republic gave Ms. Shettima an Honorary Degree for her remarkable contributions to leadership and community development.
Ms Shettima also received a diploma from Emory University in the United States and became a practitioner of Kingian Nonviolence, which was inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
She also received a Public Policy Challenges of the 21st Century Certificate from the University of Virginia.
