Mk.gee Life and career

Gordon hails from the southern region of New Jersey. When he started taking piano lessons at the age of six or seven, he developed an interest in music. At the age of 11, he started taking guitar lessons. He formed a band with a few of his classmates while still in high school. But Gordon liked to perform by himself. He started recording demos and picking up all the instruments. Gordon relocated to Los Angeles after finishing high school to enroll in the USC Thornton School of Music, but left before completing the program.

In 2017, Gordon made his debut with the song “I Know How You Get”. The song was later featured together with three additional singles, “Roll with the Punches,” “Over Here,” and “You,” on his debut EP, Pronounced McGee, which was released on May 18, 2018. The single “New Year” was published by Gordon before his second EP Fool, which was released on November 25 of the same year. A Museum of Contradiction, Gordon’s debut mixtape, was released on May 22, 2020.

The mixtape was publicized by the release of the single “cz” on February 22, 2020. NME reporter Rhys Buchanan gave the mixtape a four-star rating and wrote: “This release, as acknowledged with the mixtape title, merges genres from different worlds with both maturity and ease.” Mk.gee is a talented artist with a natural ability to blend his wide range of emotions with music. A release that seems like a significant milestone—you can feel stardom looming large in this one.

Gordon has produced all three of his albums at home. In addition to writing songs for himself, Gordon has produced music for other musicians. For example, he co-produced Omar Apollo’s mixtape Apolonio (2020) and Dijon’s debut album Absolutely (2021). In 2021, a sample of “Mountains,” sung by Charlotte Day Wilson and co-written by Gordon, appeared in the Drake and Travis Scott song “Fair Trade” off the album Certified Lover Boy. The Kid Laroi’s song “Kids Are Growing Up (Part 1)” off his upcoming debut album The First Time was produced and co-written by Gordon in 2023.

Who Is Mk.gee

Michael Gordon, also known as Mk.Gee, is an R&B singer/songwriter who operates on the periphery of the genre. His funk-infused guitar lines and dreamy instrumentals have led to comparisons to Frank Ocean and even a co-sign from the latter. In 2020, he dropped the full-length mixtape A Museum of Contradiction, which had been the subject of numerous highly anticipated EPs.

Gordon, whose birthplace is Linwood, New Jersey, was born in 1997, began to play the piano at age seven. He had joined a band by the time he was a teenager, but the group dynamic inhibited his creativity, so he started recording solo music. He relocated to Los Angeles and enrolled at USC School of Music, where he developed his alternative R&B sound. After releasing his first album, Pronounced McGee, in 2018, Mk.Gee gained popularity fast and used that momentum to his advantage by releasing another mixtape, Fool, later that year. 2020 saw the release of his second mixtape, A Museum of Contradiction. In 2023, a few singles were released, such as “Candy” and “How Many Miles.”
