YoungCee Biography

Abdulsalam Umar, also known as YoungCee, born in 1998 is a 23-year-old music creative from Northern Kaduna who studies Economics at Kaduna State University. He released his debut track, “Snow Ice” in 2017, immediately after graduating from AirForce Comprehensive School, and got signed in 2018 to 14Records, a music startup company in Kaduna State, Nigeria.

YoungCee was inspired to become a musician after listening to Fela Aníkúlápó Kuti, the pioneer of Afrobeat.

YoungCee’s debut album, “New Fela,” was released in August 2021, with the title a tribute to his muse, Fela Kuti. Lil Frosh was featured on the album’s song “Mofoti”.

YoungCee has ventured into the Nigerian music industry, known for its “single market,” producing several singles. Some of his fans’ favorite songs are “Lay Lay,” “On My Radar,” “Blessings,” “Ada,” and “Gbefunmi,” which features Terry Apala.

YoungCee hails from Kaduna City, a city recognized for producing and training Nigerian veteran Hip Hop Heads such as eLDee, Pherowshuz, Terry Tha Rapman, and Afropop voices such as CKay, Di’ja, and Skales.

Afrobeats, both as a genre and as a cultural movement, are gaining traction and making a significant impact on the global music scene.

Nigerian artists like Wizkid, Burnaboy, Tiwa Savage, and Davido are currently driving the culture forward by exploiting clever international collaborations, touring with sold-out shows, securing worldwide sponsorship agreements, and so on.

While this class of big acts represents Afrobeats worldwide, another class of newer acts does the same. CKay, Fireboy DML, Joeboy, Tems, and Rema are successful in their respective fields.

Afrobeat and Afrobeats are well-known terms. YoungCee is located at the intersection of the two. YoungCee is a talented singer-songwriter comparable to Buju, Omah Lay, and Zinoleesky. He (YoungCee) is a performer who can compete on the global stage.

YoungCee is a rising star in the global Afrobeats scene, drawing inspiration from Fela Kuti.
