Laycon, whose real name is Olamilekan Massoud Al-Khalifah Agbeleshebioba and who was born on November 8, 1993, is a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, and media personality. He was the fifth season winner of Big Brother Naija, and as of October 6, 2020, he serves as Ogun State, Nigeria’s youth ambassador. He joined the Grammy Awards Recording Academy voting committee in October 2022.

Laycon Early life and education
Lagos, Nigeria, is where Olamilekan Massoud Al-Khalifah Agbeleshebioba was born and reared, however, she was born in Odeda, Ogun State. He studied at Merian, Nigeria, at Lagos State Model College. He was accepted to the University of Lagos’ Philosophy program in 2012, and he received a Second Class Upper degree from there in 2016. His Master of Arts (MA) in International Relations from the University of Portsmouth, England, was awarded to him in April 2023.
Laycon Career
Laycon began his professional career as an undergraduate student at the University of Lagos, working as the MD and CEO of Latjum Global Nigeria Limited’s personal assistant. After graduating from the university, he relocated to Bestman Games in Ikoyi, Lagos, where he worked as a sales and business development employee.
After two months, he started working as the assistant director of welfare’s personal assistant in the administration and human resources department of the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy. Over the course of his career, he wrote for several businesses and places as a freelancer. Laycon was named the youth ambassador by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun on October 6, 2020.
At the 2021 Opo Day celebration, Laycon was granted a chieftaincy title by Yisa Adesola Olaniyan, the Onipokia of Ipokia, Ogun State, as the Akeweje of Ipokia Kingdom, Ogun State, on January 3, 2021.
Music career
Laycon started penning songs and rapping from a young age. He performed at the 2014 Coke Studio University of Lagos event, one of ten artists in total. In addition, he placed among the top 10 finalists of the MTV Base LSB competition in 2017. Laycon signed with Olugbenga Jackson’s “Fierce Nation” record label in 2019. He released a song called “Fierce” featuring Chinko Ekun and Reminisce from his second EP, “Who Is Laycon?” on February 21, 2019. Aug. 28, 2020, saw the release of another single by him, “Senseless”.
DJ Neptune’s remix of “Nobody” was made available in October 2020. Two days after he left the Big Brother Naija reality TV show, he recorded his verse for the song “Nobody iCONs Remix”. He was a featured artist on Mr. Real’s “Baba Fela” remix. The remix was made available on January 30, 2021.
Laycon released two singles on March 10, 2021: “Wagwan” and “Fall For Me (ft. YKB).” Wagwan made his debut on Billboard’s Top Ten Worldwide Thriller list, ranking number five. Laycon declared on April 1, 2021, that his debut album would be released on April 30, 2021. Laycon’s album Shall We Begin was published on April 30, 2021, and it peaked at number one on the Nigerian iTunes album list and number two on the Nigerian top album chart.
The album continued to chart in more than 30 nations. Laycon released the original soundtrack of his reality show, I Am Laycon, which was also titled I Am Laycon, in September 2021. This was his second project of 2021, and it reached its highest position on the Nigerian album chart at number nine. As a result, in just two years, Laycon’s third effort reached the top 10 rankings. Additionally, he was featured on Veeiye’s “Enter My Head,” from her first EP Young & Reckless, a fellow former BBNaija housemate.
Laycon gave a performance of “All Over Me” at the Grammy Press Play in July of 2021. He was the star of his first-ever performance, dubbed iCONs FEST, which sold out the 6000-seat Eko Convention Center at the Eko Hotel in Lagos in December 2021. He joined the Grammy Awards Recording Academy voting committee in October 2022.

Big Brother Naija season 5
On July 19, 2020, Laycon made his debut on the show as the nineteenth contestant, and he quickly became a fan favorite. On July 22, 2020, he became the first housemate of the season to receive an Instagram verification. On September 19, 2020, he also broke a milestone by becoming the first housemate in the history of the program to gain one million Instagram followers while still living there.
He was proclaimed the winner at the show’s conclusion on September 27, 2020, taking home the ₦85 million grand prize after receiving a record 60% of the total votes polled.
