Hannatu Musa Musawa, born November 1, 1974, is a Nigerian lawyer, politician, and author who now serves as Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy. She is from Katsina State in northern Nigeria and belongs to the Hausa-Fulani ethnic group.

Hannatu Musa Musawa’s Early Life and Education
Hannatu is the daughter of Musa Musawa, a member of the radical Marxist First Republic party, the Northern Elements Progressive Union, and its successor in the Second Republic, the Peoples Redemption Party.
Hannatu earned an undergraduate degree in law from the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom. She then pursued two further Master’s degrees: one in the Legal Elements of Marine Affairs from the University of Cardiff, Wales, and another in Oil & Gas from the University of Aberdeen.

Musa has had an extensive and successful career in a variety of professions. She has worked as a lawyer for private corporations, giving legal advice and representation in a variety of problems. She has specialized in marine affairs and oil and gas law, displaying her ability in these tough fields.
President Bola Tinubu appointed her in 2023 after working as his Special Adviser on Culture and the Entertainment Economy. She is in charge of promoting and developing the creative sector in Nigeria, as well as preserving and displaying the country’s cultural legacy.

Musa has been active in Nigerian politics, both as a candidate and an activist. She ran for a parliamentary position in the federal House of Representatives, hoping to assist her constituents and the general public.

She has experience as a litigation lawyer and legal counselor for a variety of private companies. As a junior lawyer, she was attached to and worked for the legal office of the Late Chief Clement Akpamgbo (former Attorney General of the Federation), and she also briefly worked with Barrister Bala Na Allah during the Oputa Panel; Human Rights Violation Commission.
She went on to start Hanney Musawa & Associates, where she is currently the Principal Partner. Since 2003, she has been an active political activist.
She actively participated in the opposition’s political operations during the 2003 and 2007 Nigerian elections.
She was also one of the prosecution’s key lawyers in the 2003 Presidential Election Petition between General Muhammadu Buhari and General Olusegun Obasanjo.
Following the verdict on the election petition, she continued to express and share her opinions through print media, writing a weekly newspaper column.
It is a place where she can speak out without fear or favor on behalf of Nigerians who do not have a voice, as well as on matters that threaten the foundations of peace and justice. She has spent several years as a human rights and women’s rights activist.
