Carney Chukwuemeka Joins Chelsea on a Six-Year Deal: A Bright Future Begins at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea has officially confirmed the signing of Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa on a six-year permanent contract, marking one of the most exciting youth acquisitions in recent years.
The 18-year-old midfielder joins the Blues after a standout year with England’s U-19 squad, where he played a key role in securing the UEFA European Under-19 Championship title.
A Star on the Rise
Chukwuemeka’s impact on England’s U-19 European Championship campaign was nothing short of sensational.
He scored the winning goal in the final against Israel, further cementing his status as one of the country’s most promising young midfielders.
His consistent brilliance earned him a spot in the UEFA Team of the Tournament, a recognition only the elite youth talents receive.
Having made nearly 100% of the appearances during the tournament, Carney demonstrated not only consistency but maturity beyond his years on the pitch.

From Northampton to the Premier League
Chukwuemeka began his youth career at Northampton Town before moving to Aston Villa at age 12.
He made his senior debut in May 2021 against Tottenham in the Premier League and was instrumental in helping Villa win the FA Youth Cup that same season, scoring goals, setting the tempo, and finishing as the tournament’s top scorer.
The 2021/22 season saw him step up even further. Carney made 14 senior appearances across all competitions, including a Premier League goal contribution in a 2-0 win over Norwich City, becoming Villa’s youngest player to do so that season.
Chelsea’s New Midfield Gem
Following weeks of speculation and anticipation, Chukwuemeka shared his excitement upon completing the move:
“It’s been quite hectic but I couldn’t get Chelsea out of my head the last few days, so I’m just happy and relieved that it’s all done. I’m so excited and can’t wait to get on the pitch, meet the players, and start winning games and trophies with Chelsea.”
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly praised the signing:
“Carney is one of the most exciting young players in Europe. We’re delighted to bring him to Chelsea and integrate him into our vision for both the present and the future.”
Fellow co-owners Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano echoed the ambition:
“We are building for both now and the future. Signing one of the hottest teenage talents in English football is exactly what this club is about. Under our ownership, we are committed to nurturing young talent and helping them thrive.”
