Renowned for his outstanding acting career, Tenoch Huerta is also widely known for his work as an anti-racism activist, which was sparked by his own experiences with institutionalized racism and prejudice.

Huerta previously worked with Poder Prieto, a Mexican group that aimed to change how society saw people of color. His contributions were mostly directed at promoting truthful and positive portrayals of Brown people in media. In addition, the group wanted to give a positive meaning to the term “Prieto,” which has historically been used as a racial slur.

Huerta has insisted time and time again on the importance of diverse and truthful portrayals of people of color in movies and television, arguing that a range of storytelling styles helps create true cultural narratives.

Huerta wrote the book Orgullo Prieto (Black Pride) in 2022, which broadened his activist reach. The book explores Mexican racial conceptions and incorporates firsthand accounts to offer a thorough grasp of the problem.

When Huerta spoke at UNESCO’s Global Forum against Racism and Discrimination that same year, he shared his perspectives on activism and media representation on a worldwide scale. His affiliation with UNESCO persisted until 2023, during which he interacted with more than two thousand students, emphasizing the significance of acknowledging privilege, questioning established structures, and the possibility of group efforts to bring about transformation.

Huerta also took part in a conversation that was organized by the UN Antiracism Working Group in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. His participation is a perfect example of his dedication to combating racism, a problem that organizations like the UN are now addressing with greater seriousness as a result of the widespread appeal of movements like Black Lives Matter.
