Fantastic Premier League Stars Ashamed Of Being In The Bottom Of The Table

Premier League Stars Embarrassed as Leicester City Sit Rock Bottom of the Table

Date: October 13, 2022

The early stages of the Premier League 2022/23 season have seen a surprising and disheartening development for Leicester City, as the Foxes sit at the bottom of the league table after nine games, having conceded a worrying number of goals.

Their next fixture, a crucial clash against Crystal Palace at King Power Stadium on Saturday lunchtime, marks the beginning of a make-or-break run.

Matches against Leeds United and Wolves, both fellow strugglers, follow in quick succession.

James Maddison

James Maddison | “It’s Embarrassing We’re Bottom.”

Leicester midfielder James Maddison, who has been in fine individual form this season, didn’t hold back when speaking to BT Sport:

“It’s a big week for us because the reality is we’re bottom of the league. That’s painful to say out loud, almost embarrassing. We have to fix it.”

Maddison was visibly frustrated following Leicester’s 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth, admitting the result wasn’t acceptable given the quality in the squad.

“No disrespect to Bournemouth, but you’ve got to go there and dominate. These are tough times, but we’re united and working towards a turnaround.”

Maddison’s Form a Silver Lining

Despite Leicester’s collective struggles, Maddison has been a standout performer, notching five goals and two assists in just eight league appearances.

However, he’s reluctant to take personal credit while the team flounders.

“I feel I’m at the top of my game right now. But it feels bittersweet, talking about personal form when we’re in this position isn’t what I want. I’d trade it all for a winning team.”

He emphasized his role in trying to motivate the squad:

“I try to lead by example, take the pressure off others, and shoulder the responsibility. But actions speak louder than words, I’ve got to keep showing it on the pitch.”

Still Ignored by England | Maddison’s World Cup Hopes Dwindle

The 25-year-old’s impressive numbers haven’t gone unnoticed by fans and pundits, but England boss Gareth Southgate continues to leave him out of national duty.

Maddison has just one cap to his name, from a substitute appearance during England’s 7-0 win over Montenegro back in 2019.

Despite consistent Premier League performances, a recall remains elusive.

“It’s tough to talk about. I don’t want to say the wrong thing, but of course I want to represent England. I feel I haven’t had the chance to show what I can do for the national team.”

“All I can do is keep performing well for Leicester. That’s my best shot at getting back in.”

Leicester’s Immediate Challenge

Brendan Rodgers faces mounting pressure as the club remains at the bottom with just four points from nine games.

Defensive lapses, inconsistent performances, and low morale have turned a once-promising squad into relegation contenders.

Can Maddison and his teammates spark a revival, or will the club’s situation spiral further? The upcoming fixtures could define Leicester’s season.
