Born on January 12, 1965, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa is a Nigerian politician and businessman who has led Ondo State as its governor since 2023. Before that, he worked for Governor Rotimi Akeredolu as deputy governor of Ondo State from 2021 to 2023. He was a Niger Delta Development Commission commissioner in the past.

Aiyedatiwa took over as interim governor on December 12, 2023, when Governor Rotimi Akeredolu took a medical leave of absence. Previously, while Akeredolu was on medical leave from June–September 2023, he held the position of acting governor.

Between 1970 and 1976, Lucky received his primary education at Saint Peter’s UNA (now FAC) Primary School, Obe Nla/Obe Adun in Ilaje LGA, Ondo State. In 1982, he completed his secondary studies at Ikosi High School in Ketu, Lagos. He graduated from Lagos State College of Education (now Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education), Ijanikin, Lagos, in 1986 with a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in Economics and Government. In 2001, he enrolled at the University of Ibadan to pursue an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration.

2009 saw him graduate from Pan Atlantic University in Lekki, Lagos’ Lagos Business School with a Post Graduate Certificate in Chief Executive Education (CEP) in Business Management. He graduated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2013 from the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom.

Between 1982 and 1983, he was employed by Scoa Assembly Plant Plc. in Apapa, Lagos, as an inventory/store officer. He worked at Reliance International Schools in Ijokodo, Ibadan, as an assistant head teacher in 1987. In 1990, he was appointed as the Marketing Officer at Universal Pharmaceutical Supply Co. Ltd., located in Ikeja, Lagos. He worked as an assistant investment analyst in 1992. He served as General Merchandise Manager of Biz Mart Nigeria Limited, Lagos Island, Lagos, and Global Trust Limited, Gbagada, Lagos, in 1994.


He is the managing director and chief executive officer of the Blue Wall Group of Companies[6], which he founded in 1996. The companies are Blue Wall Nigeria Ltd, a trading company; Blue Wall BDC Nigeria Ltd, a foreign exchange trading company licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN); and Blue Wall Safety Travels and Tours, an IATA-licensed travel agency and logistic company.

As a card-carrying member of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), which subsequently combined with other political parties to become the All Progressive Congress (APC), he entered active politics in 2011. In 2014, he attended the All Progressive Congress (APC) National Convention in Abuja as one of the National Delegates from Ondo State. In the 2015 Presidential and National Assembly General Election, he ran for the federal House of Representatives representing the Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency.

Niger Delta Development Commission

From 2018 to 2019, Aiyedatiwa was the federal commissioner who represented Ondo State on the Niger Delta Development Commission board.

Ondo State Government

He was chosen to be Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s running mate in the 2020 Ondo State governor’s race.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared that Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa had been elected as the new governor and deputy governor of Ondo State on October 11, 2020.

They were sworn in as Ondo State’s governor and deputy governor, respectively, on February 25, 2021.

On December 12, 2023, Aiyedatiwa took over as acting governor of Ondo State as Akeredolu departed for treatment for end-stage leukemia. Before Akeredolu’s medical leave from June to September of 2023, he served as acting governor.


After Akeredolu passed away on December 27, 2023, Aiyedatiwa took office as governor.
