Jodi Hughes is an experienced editor, a dog mother, and an introvert. Soon after graduating from college, she started working for Thomas Nelson Publishers (which would eventually become HarperCollins Christian Publishing and HarperCollins Focus).
Over her nearly fourteen years there, she worked a variety of positions, mostly with the fiction team.
Among the best-selling and most honored authors she has collaborated with are J’nell Ciesielski, Joy Callaway, Kristy Cambron, Terri Blackstock, Charles Martin, and Sean Dietrich.
In 2023, Jodi made the switch from corporate publication to freelancing to pursue new prospects.

Jodi Hughes Career
My career started right out of college with a short internship at a publishing house, which turned into a foundational season that lasted for fourteen years.
My career in book publishing began when I interned as a catch-all for many nonfiction divisions at Thomas Nelson in Nashville, Tennessee.
I handled everything, including composing press releases, comparing proofreader markings, printing and manually binding hundreds of documents for publicity mailings, attending meetings, and ordering meals.
After two years, I was still employed by the company and had amazingly secured my ideal position as an editorial assistant for the fiction team.
I put a lot of effort into my work. Difficult. After HarperCollins purchased Thomas Nelson in 2012, our longstanding fiction publisher departed and a new one joined, internal processes were modified, authors were added, books were released, conferences were attended, and I gradually worked my way up to associate editor, editor, and then senior editor. I
gained knowledge of contracts and metadata, participated in discussions about titling and acquisitions, selected and employed proofreaders, oversaw spreadsheets and timelines, and handled rights reversions.
I collaborated with some wonderful folks, including writers, freelancers, and coworkers. I read writing craft books and observed the line edits of two outstanding freelance editors before starting to do line edits internally.
and developed a deep affection for line editing as well as assisting writers in refining and enhancing their works.
I decided to leave corporate publishing in April 2023 and seek a career as a freelance editor so that I could do more of what I love. And now here I am.
