Meet Ali Artwork

I was born in Kano State’s Tarauni Local Government. From 1999 until 2005, I attended Unguwa Uku Special Primary School for my elementary education.

To get my secondary school leaving certificate, I attended Government Senior Secondary School, Kundila after completing my junior secondary education at Government Junior Secondary School, Unguwa Uku in 2008.

I went on to study languages, English, and Hausa at Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education in Kumbotso, Kano State, but I left when I was about to go to NCE II because of financial difficulties.

From then on, I got involved in a lot of different industries, including acting, comedy, graphics, tailoring, and editing.

How did you start working as a film editor?

Being a school dropout, I know that one will do whatever to get by. As a result, it was amid these difficulties that I met Aminu Mu’azu, also known as Aminu Bacci.

He worked as a film editor, and I confided in him and begged for assistance. Fortunately for me, he offered me his helping hands in addition to his listening ears.

He gave me inspirational talks about life and gave me advice on how to improve myself. He also taught me how to edit movies. My life was revolutionized by meeting him.

I have collaborated with numerous film directors, including Kamal S. Alkali, Ali Gumzak, and Aminu Saira.

Along with actors like Ali Nuhu, Adam A. Zango, Nuhu Abdullahi, and Sadiq Sani Sadiq, among others, I have also collaborated with producers such as Abba Miko Yakasai, Usman Mu’azu, AbdulAziz Dan Small, Naziru Dan Hajiya, and Abubakar Mai Shadda.

To date, how many movies have you edited?

I can’t even begin to count how many films I have edited. “Maja,” “Gwaska,” “Ga Fili Ga Mai Doki,” “Duniya Makaranta,” “Soyayya Da Shakuwa,” “Bayan Rai,” “Raddi,” “Ina Mafita,” “Ashabul Khafi,” “Birnin Masoya,” and many more are among the movies I edited.

What about the accomplishments you have already made in Kannywood?

I offer God the praise because I’ve emerged as one of Kannywood’s influential editors. I received a nomination for the Third MTN/Kannywood Award in 2016 and was awarded Best Editor for the film “Gwaska.”

At the 2016 AMMA Awards, I was named the Best Movie Trailer Editor.

During the recent Arewa Creative Industry Concert in Kaduna, I was also honored with a merit award.

Additionally, I launched my comedic production company, Mu Sha Dariya Arewa Comedian.

You seem interested in humor these days; could you tell us what motivated you to perform stand-up comedy?

That’s the result of numerous variables. First of all, I recall that people would always be laughing when we were conversing or having a conversation.

They thought I was humorous, and a lot of them thought I would make a fantastic comedian. I finally decided to give it a shot, and much to my amazement, I turned out to be among the top Arewa stand-up comedians.

I perform stand-up comedy as well as short comedy clips; my work is available for viewing on my website by people worldwide.

What difficulties did you encounter before becoming a well-known comedian and movie editor?

Since I didn’t rush anything, I didn’t encounter any difficult obstacles. I waited a while before acting. My success has been attributed to a combination of traits such as tenacity, steadfastness, humility, hard effort, determination, inventiveness, and originality. Everything I’ve tried has worked out flawlessly.

Given that both stand-up comedy and film editing took a lot of time, how did you manage to balance them?

It was challenging right away since I didn’t know how to blend the two. That made me sit down and plan out my timetable. I made myself adhere to it religiously.

I now give each of them a set time, and my schedules are operating properly, so it’s extremely easy for me.

What is your greatest comedy and film editing dream?

My dream is to become one of the world’s top stand-up comedians and film editors. I am not going to accomplish that feat just by saying it; to get there, I am also considering creative paths to take.

If your goal is to dominate the comedy scene, do you intend to work with Nigeria’s top stand-up comedians, such as Basketmouth and A.Y.?

Indeed, I do. I have ideas about how to introduce Basketmouth and the others to the northern region of Nigeria. Those comedians are limited to the southern region of this nation.

They have ignored the northern region, and they are unaware of the enormous fan base they have there. I am aware that they also tour in Europe and Asia.

I’m trying to get them over here. That’s also what I have planned for the Arewa Comedy Industry.

Among the many movies you have edited, which one is your best?

I am unable to pick a favorite movie. They’re all my best, in my opinion.

Which movie did you have the most headaches after editing?

Sincerely, “Birnin Masoya,” “Gwaska,” and “Dan Marayan Zaki.” However, I wasn’t the only one who modified “Dan Marayan Zaki”. Along with Aminu Bacci and Bashir Lawan, I completed it.

However, the photos and movie quality were excessive, and the system immediately shut off when I transferred the work to the computer.

Before I could complete the task, I had to make a lot of concentrated attempts and manipulations.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

My happiest memory was being named the best among the others—not because I’m superior to them, but rather because I performed a remarkable job that others were unable to do.

Which is your saddest memory?

My darkest experience was learning that Alhaji Rabilu Musa Ibro, the king of Hausa humor and my mentor, had passed away following a brief illness.

Two years later, I’m still in mourning because I miss him so much. It was shocking and sad. His passing was an irreversible loss.
