Meet Rayya
My full name is Surayya Aminu, but because of my work on the TV show Kwana Casa’in, I go by Rayya in the industry.
My state of origin, Kaduna State, is where I was raised after being born in Lagos State 21 years ago. I work as an actress in Kano at the moment.
I’ve been to a lot of movies, including Kwanna Casa’in, the TV show. As luck would have it, I entered the field roughly three years ago and am now in this position. I never imagined that in such a short amount of time, I would be where I am now.
Three years ago, you were not in the industry. What was the process of your joining?
Many industry followers are perplexed as to how I rose to fame in just three years. It’s what I always call God’s will.
It’s true that I’ve interacted with a lot of male and female artists and that I’ve accomplished a level that some haven’t, but that’s not my fault and it doesn’t make me superior to them.
I have never looked down on anyone, thus I am thankful that God is at work in our world.
But I always loved acting, and I used to shut myself in my room to rehearse a part.
That, I think, is what made me stand out from the competition the first time I was cast in a movie.
It wasn’t difficult for me to adjust or assume the positions.
How did you become a part of the Kwana Casa’in cast?
Before Kwana Casa’in, as I previously stated, I appeared in several films and went through the same audition process as other artists.
Fortunately, I was cast for the lead role in the TV show that Arewa24 aired.
To God be praised, that part launched me into celebrity and gave me the stage name Rayya.
Among other movies, I have acted in include Faraga, Alaka, and Sabon Salo. I have additional films that I’m working on right now.
Do you remember saying that, in addition to acting, you would like to be a well-known businesswoman?
It is true, indeed. I’m passionate about business, and I aim to one day follow my dream of becoming a successful businesswoman that Nigeria and the entire continent can be proud of.
In what way would you characterize the attention you’ve been getting because of Rayya’s character?
I was in the series as a governor’s housemaid, and a lot of people have told me how much they like the glitz I brought to the whole show. I was informed that my abilities on the TV show helped me stand out.
I was just going about my acting business, but during the series, I started to draw attention to myself. I don’t mean to brag, but the response I’ve been getting from the public is quite positive.
As an actress, what is your secret?
I don’t have any secrets, but I have made it a point in my acting career to keep my mouth shut and avoid getting sucked into problems that don’t affect me.
I still have friendly contact with my coworkers. I consider the practitioners in this field to be like family.
Do you regret being an actress in any way?
Being an actress is not anything I regret. Since I view acting as a vocation and a profession, I am proud to be affiliated with the performing arts. Like any other legal practice, it pays the bills.
Which of your acting moments is the happiest for you?
I was happiest on the day I finished my house. With the money I made from my acting career, I was able to build a house, and the day I finished it was one of the best days of my life.
Does Rayya have a significant relationship?
Indeed, I am.
Does he work in the field?
He is not, that is for sure.
Is it legal to wed another artist?
Of course, so why won’t I wed another artist? Nothing about a marriage proposal from the industry makes me want to say no. I would be more than happy to embrace such a suggestion.
In the foreseeable future, where do you see the industry?
You will concur with me that despite the many obstacles, Kannywood has truly matured and that we have succeeded in reaching this point.
Since I consider these difficulties as a blessing, I am confident that the industry will grow into a powerful force shortly, not just in Nigeria but throughout the entire world.
Regarding current events in the industry, Rayya appears to be extremely quiet. Why is there no word?
I’m the type of person who always minds my own business. True, the current events in the industry call for a modest and true response, but as things are, I stay out of things that I am not involved in.
I keep to myself and have friendly ties with all practitioners.
Do you believe that the industry’s present developments will damage its reputation?
Not in my opinion. As you can see, nothing in the entertainment sector is new in terms of current events. People who work in the entertainment industry everywhere experience comparable problems.
One of the most well-liked industries is entertainment, where anything a professional does can become a viral story.
Even so, because it doesn’t involve well-known individuals, people ignore the terrible things that occur outside of the sector.
Since we are all buddies, we don’t have much privacy, but we still need to learn how to live our lives.
