Manchester United Star Mason Greenwood To Be Released Out Of Jail.

The footballer, who is charged with attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behavior, was granted bail after the hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester.

The 21-year-old English international, who was not present for the bail application hearing, has been charged with attempted rape; engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Manchester Magistrates Court previously heard he is charged with attempted rape relating to an alleged incident on October 22, 2021; engaging in controlling and coercive behavior between November 1, 2018, and October 15, 2022, namely accessing and monitoring social media accounts, stopped and altered the way the complainant socialized, and making threatening and derogatory comments towards a female; and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, with a period between December 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021, specified.

 

After today’s hearing (Wednesday), which was held in private at Minshull Street Crown Court, Judge John Potter granted Mr. Greenwood bail with conditions not to contact any witnesses in the case including the complainant, and to reside at an address on Bow Green Road.

The case was adjourned to November 21 to be heard at Minshull Street Crown Court for a preliminary hearing.

Mr. Greenwood, of Bow Green Road, Bowdon, Trafford, was bailed until the next hearing.

He is also accused of engaging in controlling or coercive behavior, namely ‘monitoring her social media accounts and making threats and derogatory comments towards her, amounting to a serious effect upon her.

He is also accused of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on December 21.

The player was first held in January over allegations relating to a young woman after images and videos were posted online.

He had been on bail since then but was arrested in the Trafford area on Saturday for an alleged breach of conditions by contacting the alleged victim.

Shortly after 4 pm on Saturday, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said it had authorized Greater Manchester Police to charge Greenwood.

Janet Potter, the deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS North West, said: ‘The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorized Greater Manchester Police to charge Mason Greenwood, 21, with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

‘All three counts relate to the same complainant.

‘Specialist rape prosecutors from CPS North West’s complex casework unit authorized the charges following a review of a file of evidence received from Greater Manchester Police.’

The controlling and coercive behavior relates to a period between November 2018 and October this year, while the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm is dated December 2021.

Within hours of the allegations surfacing online at the beginning of the year, the forward – who has made one appearance for England – was suspended from playing or training with the Old Trafford club.

Nike suspended and later terminated its sponsorship deal with Greenwood, while Electronic Arts confirmed his removal from active squads on Fifa 22.
