Who is the man who appeals to the government and arranges elections

A man who came into the public spotlight after he recently appealed to the top of the state

The general secretary of the Football Association of Serbia, Jovan Šurbatović, has been mentioned in the media for days as someone close to the top of the state, and he directly participated in the confusion that arose around the assembly of the Football Association of Belgrade.

The day before the aforementioned assembly, FK Crvena Zvezda presented a series of serious accusations against the Football Association of Belgrade.

“FK Crvena Zvezda was not informed within the prescribed period, nor was it consulted as our biggest club regarding the Assembly of the Football Association of Belgrade scheduled for September 19, 2022. year, which is a precedent in decades of practice so far.

Also, after today’s consultations with FK Partizan, we were informed that our second-largest club was excluded from the entire process, which we consider unacceptable.

We also have the same information from other clubs of the Super League of Serbia and the First League of Serbia,” stated Zvezda in a letter to the FSB.

From the red and white camp, they directly condemned Jovan Šurbatović for such an omission.

“Our knowledge is also that the Secretary General of the Football Association of Serbia (Jovan Šurbatović, ed.) is involved in the entire process, in such a way that it was falsely presented to the delegates of the assembly that all the planned personnel decisions of the FSB were agreed with the political leadership of the Republic of Serbia.

which does not correspond to the truth. In this way, gross manipulation of FSB parliamentary delegates was carried out. Bearing in mind the above, FC Crvena Zvezda’s proposal to FSB delegates is to postpone the FSB Assembly for a period of 7 days to consult all clubs of the Super League and the First League of Serbia”, they write from Zvezda with the signature of club president Svetozar Mijailović.

Zvezda and Partizan were removed from the game, and a new president and general secretary were elected, but it would be good if Šurbatović announced himself and publicly said who from the top of the state could have connections with the Football Association of Serbia and Belgrade and who is allowed to do so because what to direct events.

Jovan Surbatovic Biography

Jovan Šurbatović was born on March 29, 1968. He has a degree in economics.

He received his master’s degree in 2007 at the UN University for Peace on the subject of “Categorization of sports”, and he defended his doctoral dissertation entitled “Management of sports facilities” at the University of Novi Sad in 2012.

Before coming to the position of Deputy General Secretary of the FSS, he held the position of General Secretary of the Football Association of Belgrade for more than five years and was also the vice president of the Provisional Management Body of the FSB of Belgrade.

He was a long-term member of the Assembly of FK Crvena Zvezda and the director of FK Radnički from Obrenovac during its greatest successes.

Jovan Šurbatović performed many other important duties and functions in his business career.

He was Director of Business with the Economy of Bank Intesa, member of the Board of Management of Bank Poštanska Štedionica, financial director of Srbijaautoput, director of JP Agency for the Reconstruction of Belgrade, assistant director of JP Ada Ciganlija, president of the Board of Belgrade Arena and member of the Belgrade City Government in charge of sports.

Since 1993, he has also been working in education, first in high school, and later in higher education.

He was a professor at the Faculty of Sports of Union University – Nikola Tesla. He writes professional and scientific papers and is the author of several books and textbooks.

He is married, and the father of three children.

Soon after everything, Blagoje Tabaš, the president of the Football Association of the Pčinj district, joined the story, who wanted to point out the irregularities in the elections, which are connected to Šubatović and the state leadership (which, as we all know, usually consists of only one person).

This is not the first time that Šurbatović has come into the public eye for shady actions, and he has been in the position of Secretary General of the FSS since December 2016.

It hasn’t been long since he came to high office, and the promises have already started. Of course, they have not been fulfilled even to this day.

“We will start, I hope, at the end of this year or the beginning of the next with the construction of the National Stadium.

Accelerated preparations for the project are underway. We have extremely good cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as with other relevant ministries.

We are currently looking for a suitable location and I think that with the help of UEFA and FIFA, we will soon arrive at the project of a new stadium,” Šurbatović said in 2017 about the construction of the National Stadium.

Five years later, we wonder where that stadium is and what kind of accelerated preparations that have been going on for years. Why promise something that cannot be fulfilled? Although, we are already used to that.

During his mandate, he also had a conflict with Novic Tončev, otherwise a minister without portfolio in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, who was officially removed from football in August of this year.

Another scandal in which he was involved was the dismissal of Professor Dr. Miljko Ristić, who was the president of the Medical Commission of the Football Association of Serbia.

In November of last year, Miljko Ristić spoke openly about the entire event, while Jovan Šurbatović again had no comment.

“I was surprised by the decision to dissolve the FSS Medical Commission. I learned the news from public information sources, as a continuation of the story about the postponement of the match between Crvena Zvezda and Voždovac.

There are many illogicalities, paradoxes, and a priori exclusivities in the whole story,” said Ristic for Sport Klub.

Ristić was the head of the Medical Commission for almost two decades, he postponed matches even before the coronavirus pandemic, and he had something to say about the controversial postponement of the match between Zvezda and Voždovac.

“Complete measures were implemented, according to the procedure.

And there is nothing in dispute – the club submitted the six necessary reports from doctors from the state health institution.

The day of the examination, the number of the protocol, the seal of the doctor and the institution, everything was in place”.

However, evidence and papers are something that is not held in high esteem in this country.

Jovan Šurbatović was the initiator (for the change of prim. out).

I understand the general secretary to some extent, the elections are just around the corner, and he has to maintain good relations with the structures of Partizan and Zvezda. The statement about the conflict of interest struck me the most.

Imagine, me in a conflict of interest! My littleness, doctor, opposite Jovan Šurbatović, the leader of the Red Star fans.

Miljko Ristić did not examine any football player but noted the report of a colleague.

Šurbatović humiliated the medical profession! There was no reason to doubt, the reports were signed by different doctors in recent months.

And one more thing about the conflict of interest – I don’t receive a salary for being engaged in either Crvena Zvezda or FSS. I never received a dinar.”

To everything related to Professor Dr. Ristić and the whole case surrounding the dissolution (and formation of a new) Medical Commission, Šurbatović replied: “No comment.”

Exactly what all football fans would say about the events in the domestic championship and lower leagues who knows how many years ago.

The last in a series of scandals in Serbian football was this very one with the Assembly of the Football Association of Belgrade, and the situation at the World Cup in 2018 perhaps best shows how much Šurbatović should be trusted.

Then the General Secretary of the Serbian Football Federation said to the camera that before the match with Switzerland “they threatened FIFA that they will not go on the field if the Albanians from their team have the coat of arms of Kosovo on their football boots”.

After he realized that FIFA was still untouchable from his position, he then said: “that the journalist made up the statement”.

It is easiest to blame journalists and the media, but the evidence is there.

It is difficult to say whether you can trust Šurbatović, as he has more than once decided to remain silent rather than speak out when necessary.

That would be his duty now, and Serbian football is still waiting for recovery, which it needs.
