Dorcas Oduor Biography
On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, President William Ruto nominated Dorcas Agik Oduor to be the Attorney General.
She is presently employed by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) office as the Secretary of Public Prosecutions.
She has worked as the Head of the Departments of Economic, International, and Emerging Crimes and Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), among other positions.

After starting her career as a State Counsel in 1991, Mrs. Oduor became a career prosecution counsel and worked in the public prosecutions department for almost 12 years.
She has an LL.B. from the University of Nairobi, a Master’s degree in International Conflict Management, and a law diploma from the Kenya School of Law and Justice.

She has held positions as the Attorney General’s Assisting Counsel on the Kiruki Commission on Artur Brothers, Joint Secretary of the Police Reform Commission (Ransley Commission), Chair of the Board on Criminal Psychiatrists, and Member of the National Task Force on Terrorist Financing and Money Laundering, among other positions.

What are the Attorney General’s responsibilities?
Oduor will be appointed to the Attorney General’s office if the vetting committee approves her nomination. Her roles are listed below:
She will serve as the government’s main legal counsel and defend the country’s interests in court and other legal actions.
Regarding the Department of Justice, she will carry out the duties of a Cabinet Secretary, which means that she will be in charge of promoting legal aid, good governance, anti-corruption tactics, ethics and integrity, legal education, and law reform in addition to advancing human rights and implementing the Constitution.
Oduor has a wider cross-cutting mandate to promote strengthening legal sector institutions because it will oversee, coordinate, and give policies to different legal sector organizations.
In addition, Oduor will supervise and review legal cases concerning Public Trustee and estate and trust administration;
She will negotiate, draft, and review national and international instruments, treaties, and agreements concerning the government and its institutions.
Oduor will also uphold the public interest and advance the rule of law in his capacity as Attorney General.
Who is the EAC CS nominee?
Beatrice Askul Moe was nominated by the chief of state to serve as the East African Community’s Cabinet secretary.
The nominee is an expert in creating and overseeing community affairs, according to a statement from the president.
Moe has previously held the positions of chair of the Valley Water Services Board’s Technical Committee, chair of the Rift Valley Water Services Board’s Audit Committee, and director of the latter.
