Who Is Dauda Kahutu Rarara?

Alhaji Dauda Kahutu also referred to as Rarara in the entertainment industry, began his career as a Qur’anic knowledge seeker from Katsina state who came to Kano. Today, he is well-known in the industry as a revolutionary in political participation in the northern region of Nigeria.

His career took off in 2007 when he wrote and produced the popular song “Ruwa Baba,” which he wrote for his political mentor, Abdullahi T. Gwarzo, the deputy governor of Kano State at the time. In addition, he performed the song “Kainuwa” for the governor of Kano State at the time, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau. These two songs turned into political street anthems, and as a result, the singer’s name started to rule the political landscape in Kano State and the northern portion of the nation.

But after Malam Shekarau’s two terms came to an end and there was a falling out between Shekarau’s successor, Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, and President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan between 2013 and 2015, Rarara switched sides and wrote several songs, including the powerful song “Zuwan Mai Malafa Kano,” for his new home.

Rarara’s relationship with Kwankwaso’s political movement was short-lived as the singer later changed course and called Kwankwaso “Tsula” in his song.

When Kwankwaso’s rivalry with his successor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, became apparent, the singer changed sides. He set up his tent alongside Ganduje and sang numerous songs for his recently discovered mentor. Hit songs he wrote for Ganduje include “Baban Abba Ganduje” and “Ku tafawa na Goggo.”

But it was recently discovered that Rarara had abandoned Ganduje, calling him “Hankaka” in a recent political song.

Similarly, Rarara has established himself as “Buhari’s singer” at the national level thanks to his hit song “Masu Gudu su gudu.” However, in a song called “Kasata” from 2021, the artist started criticizing Buhari’s government.

Even though the singer was accused of misleading his fans by asking them to donate N1000 to finance his next song—which he hasn’t finished—for President Buhari, the song caused significant anxiety among his followers when he only came up with “Kasata.”

Rarara declared in 2022 that Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be his ally in the general election of 2023. Many of the musician’s admirers were taken aback when he announced his support for Governor Ganduje’s political opponent, Malam Sha’aban Sharada, the ADP’s nominee for governor of Kano state. The artist has long been a loyal ally of the APC political party.

There have been requests for Rarara to be taken from the APC campaign committee’s list of candidates as a result of this recent incident, which has greatly heightened friction in state politics. Reliable sources claimed that a strong Kano state APC delegation had formally sent Bola Tinubu a letter asking for Rarara to be removed from the committee.

They didn’t, however, receive a positive response from the presidential candidate. According to reports, Tinubu claimed that Rarara represents the entire north on the committee rather than just Kano state.

Here’s the question: How long will Rarara and Sharada’s newfound romance last? Time will tell.

However, Rarara is seen as the driving force behind the unification in the entertainment sector, not just in Kano but throughout the country as a whole. He was said to be a huge industry supporter. He has given automobiles as gifts to twelve celebrities. Additionally, he played a key role in the establishment of 13-13, an alliance of actors and actresses that he leads as President. Actors in the coalition who have benefited from Rarara’s generosity include Tijjani Asase and Daddy Hikima.
